KNITTING PATTERN INFORMATION
These lovely 1950s Latvian Style Mittens are based on a traditional Latvian peasant pattern. The original mittens were knitted in white, chestnut brown, bright gold, nutmeg brown, scarlet, royal and emerald. A chart is included for the pattern.
KNITTING PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
MEASUREMENTS:Length: 10 inches
Width: above thumb 7 inches
MATERIALS:
Original Yarn suggestion and needle size info:
1 oz Fingering 3 ply Wool in White
1 oz Fingering 3 ply Wool in Chestnut Brown
Oddments of Nutmeg Brown, Scarlet, Royal, Emerald
No 12 needles (2.75 mm) 4 with points at both ends
No. 14 needles (2.00 mm) 4 with points at both ends
TENSION:
8 1⁄2 stitches and 10 1⁄2 rows to one square inch
The original yarn may not be available due to the age of the pattern. Select the yarn type that is closest to the weight of the original yarn.
When reworking the pattern it is best to knit a tension swatch with your chosen yarn. To get the correct measurements, your tension must be the same as stated in the pattern.
