Size:  US size 14 from 1940s

Bust: not specified

The pattern instructions for knitting the Back and Front bodice states:

61 stitches across rows on No. 10 needles, at a tension of 3.5 stitches to 1 inch the width. The measurement all around at underarm for the jumper, based on the number of stitches and tension is about 35 inches.

61 stitches ÷ 3.5 (stitches per inch) = 17.4 at underarm per bodice

17.4 x 2 = 34.8 inches all around at underarm

When reworking the pattern it is best to knit a tension swatch with your chosen yarn. To get the correct measurements, your tension must be the same as stated in the pattern.
