This lovely 1930s Virginia Cardigan knitting pattern is designed to fit a 40 to 44 inch bust size, which is rare to find in knitting patterns of this era. The smart design features patterned front panels, a plunging V neckline and is fastened with 4 buttons. It's truly a rare gem from the past, now yours to knit and create.

Original yarn suggestion and needle size info:   

9 oz 3 ply Wool

No. 10 Needles (3.25 mm)

No 12 Needles (2.75 mm)

4 Buttons



 7 stitches and 9 rows to 1 square inch 


The original yarn may not be available due to the age of the pattern. Select the yarn type that is closest to the weight of the original yarn.


When reworking the pattern it is best to knit a tension swatch with your chosen yarn. To get the correct measurements, your tension must be the same as stated in the pattern.  If there is no tension specified in the pattern, you might have to calculate the tension based on the total number of stitches at the widest part of the back and front bodice and divide it by the bust measurement specified.
